They called it a phantom pregnancy. Dr doing ultrasound said he could see a gestational sac and yolk but no fetal pole. I went for a second opinion before making that decision. Went back 2 weeks later and baby was measuring 8 wk 3 days with a strong heartbeat. measuring small/no fetal pole success stories? : As I had mentioned in my earlier post that I am in my 10th week but no fetal pole neither heartbeat is seen.. A fetal pole is seen during pregnancy which is a thickening on the margin of the yolk sac of a foetus. If a baby is seen measuring 8 weeks or larger with no heartbeat, the chances are quite slim that you had a misdiagnosed miscarriage. We did the ultrasound, we saw the uterus and yolk sac but no fetal pole. If, however, you go to the follow-up ultrasound and there's still no sign of a fetal pole (or a gestational sac, which looks like white rim around a clear center), a miscarriage has likely occurred. At the scan they could see the gestational sac, the yolk sac, and the baby (fetal pole) and everything was in the right place, however they told us the baby was only measuring 6.3mm which suggested a 6 week pregnancy, not an 8 week one. I had a scan Tuesday at 9 weeks to be told only gestational sac no yolk go fetal pole no embryo. The progress in 2 weeks is lots but not sure if it's enough! It appeared to be more common for no fetal pole to be seen and a baby to be found later, than a baby with no heartbeat to later have one. My sac measured 8 weeks and 3 days. It is usually seen at six weeks with ultrasound technique. 8 weeks pregnant, ultrasound showed no fetal pole, but a yolk sac ... but wanted to see I was not alone and in fact to share my story! I'd had a scan 2 weeks previously and tree wasn't much to see, only a tiny white dot. I know I could be around 6 weeks but definitely not 5! I'm 7 weeks and 6 days pregnant (according to an app) based on my lmp. Was shocked to say the least. By my LMP (16.04.13) I should have been 8+1. There was also no heartbeat visible. I had to have a d&e done. However, it is absolutely normal for the fetal pole to not be visible until about 9 weeks. : I had my dating ultrasound done yesterday and my doctor finally called me today and said the gestational sac is measuring 6 weeks 6 days but they couldn't see anything else including a fetal pole. 10th week.. no fetal pole, no heartbeat ... neither any symptoms of pregnancy..
